AGRICULTURAL WELFARE SCHEMES IN INDIA: A SOCIO-LEGAL STUDY

Abstract

Agriculture remains the backbone of the Indian economy and provides livelihood to a significant portion of the population. Government policies and welfare schemes play a crucial role in supporting farmers and ensuring sustainable agricultural development. This research paper presents a socio-legal analysis of agricultural welfare schemes in India and examines their effectiveness in improving farmers’ socio-economic conditions. The study focuses on the constitutional framework, government policies, and major agricultural schemes implemented by the Union and State governments. It evaluates how these schemes contribute to farmers’ welfare, agricultural productivity, and rural development. The research further analyses the challenges in implementation and suggests policy reforms to enhance the impact of agricultural schemes. The paper concludes that although several welfare schemes have significantly benefited farmers, proper awareness, transparency, and institutional coordination are essential to ensure equitable distribution and long-term sustainability.
