Electronic payment systems have revolutionized financial transactions by providing speed, convenience, and security, transforming the way individuals and businesses handle money. This study examines the current scenario of electronic payment methods in India, including mobile wallets, UPI (Unified Payments Interface), net banking, debit/credit cards, and contactless payments. The research highlights widespread adoption driven by government initiatives such as Digital India, demonetization, and the promotion of cashless transactions, as well as the growing smartphone penetration and internet accessibility. Data from financial institutions and users indicate that while electronic payments have increased efficiency and reduced transaction costs, challenges such as cybersecurity threats, technical glitches, low digital literacy in rural areas, and infrastructure limitations persist. The study explores the scope for improvement through enhanced security measures, user education, simplified interfaces, interoperability across platforms, and robust regulatory frameworks. Findings suggest that addressing these challenges can strengthen trust, expand financial inclusion, and encourage higher adoption rates.
