Abstract

Cost reduction is a critical strategy in the automobile industry to enhance competitiveness, improve profitability, and maintain sustainable growth. This study examines various cost reduction techniques implemented by automobile manufacturers in India and globally, focusing on operational efficiency, supply chain optimization, and technological innovation. Key techniques analyzed include lean manufacturing, justin-time (JIT) inventory management, value engineering, process automation, energy-efficient production, and supplier relationship management. The research highlights how these strategies help reduce production costs, minimize waste, improve resource utilization, and enhance product quality. Data from leading automobile companies indicate that cost reduction initiatives not only lower operational expenses but also contribute to price competitiveness, customersatisfaction, and market share expansion. The study also addresses challenges such as balancing cost reduction with innovation, maintaining workforce productivity, and managing supply chain risks. Findings suggest that a systematic and strategic approach to cost management, integrating advanced technologies, process re-engineering, and employee involvement, is essential for achieving longterm efficiency and profitability. The study concludes that adopting cost reduction techniques enables automobile manufacturers to remain agile in a competitive market, meet consumer expectations, and sustain financial performance.
