Abstract

The rapid growth of urbanization and limited availability of land have led to an increasing demand for tall buildings, making wind load analysis a critical aspect of structural design. This project focuses on the analysis and design of a G+15 reinforced concrete (RCC) framed building subjected to wind loads using ETABS software. A comparative study is carried out for two different terrain categories (Category 3 and Category 4) as per IS 875 (Part 3):1987 to evaluate their influence on structural behavior. Wind load parameters such as basic wind speed, terrain factor, topography factor, and importance factor are considered to determine design wind pressures at various heights. The structural model is analyzed by applying load combinations that include dead load, live load, and wind load. Key structural responses such as bending moment, shear force, axial force, support reactions, and story displacement are obtained and compared for both terrain conditions. The results indicate that wind load significantly affects the performance of tall structures, especially in terms of lateral displacement and internal forces. It is observed that higher terrain categories result in increased wind pressure, leading to higher reinforcement requirements. The study also includes the detailed design of beams and columns based on IS 456:2000 and IS 13920 provisions, ensuring structural safety and serviceability. The findings highlight the importance of accurate wind load estimation in the design of high-rise buildings and demonstrate the effectiveness of ETABS in analyzing complex structural behavior under varying wind conditions.
