Abstract

In developing countries such as Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, road accidents resulting 
from a lack of knowledge have emerged as a major issue in public health. Particularly among 
the country's youth (16–30), road accidents rank high among India's causes of death.Most 
glaringly, traffic accidents are caused by humans. Human physiological and psychological 
aspects, vehicle and environmental elements, and pre- and post-accident road features are 
all contributors to road accidents. In order to lessen the occurrence and impact of these 
accidents, a range of contemporary and up-to-date approaches must be used. The 
government cannot resolve the issues of traffic accidents on its own. Participation is 
essential in bolstering the execution of road safety measures. Health agencies, traffic police, 
and other public and private organisations must collaborate to make road safety a top 
priority. Information used comes from a variety of reliable sources, such as witnesses to 
incidents within this 23 km radius of Jalandhar-Phagwara, as well as hospitals, police, and 
local merchants. Record keeping and in-depth investigations into blackspots (regions with 
an abnormally high accident rate) and other defects like uneven pavement, missing rumble 
strips, terrible road surface conditions, and engineering flaws in the highway's design 
parameters are required to identify accident causes. The 23.1 kilometre stretch between 
Phagwara and Jalandhar is the region that is being examined. Heavy traffic and accidents 
often occur in this corridor, which connects the Indian states of Jammu & Kashmir and 
Punjab.
