Research on marine-grade aluminium alloys that undergo friction welding

One of the most recent joining methods,
friction stir welding is primarily used for the
joining of aluminium alloys. Therefore, the
purpose of this research was to examine the
effects of various weld conditions on friction
stir welding of marine grade 5083 aluminium
alloy. Several studies were conducted to
investigate the effects of tool traversal speed
and tool rotation speed on the microstructure
and mechanical qualities of the welded
connection. It was discovered that the tool
traverse speed had a substantial impact on the
final properties of the welded joint. By
smoothing out the grain, the TMAZ enhanced
the welded junction's mechanical qualities.
Although the rotation speed was kept constant,
mechanical qualities were unfortunately lost
when the welding speed was raised. Findings
suggest that, with proper process parameter
selection, a marine grade 5083 aluminium alloy
welded joint of extremely high quality is not
out of the question.
