Abstract

Just take a look at Sudha Murthy’s Mahaswetha to see how society’s expectations often impede women’s self-perception. The narrative presents a world where the grief of being ignored is intertwined with ideas of beauty, those bothersome stereotypes, and a woman's sense of worth. Mahaswetha by Sudha Murthy provides the groundwork for a study that explores how women’s self-perception is influenced by societal expectations. Generally speaking, this work focusses on concepts of beauty standards, frequent stereotyping, and the hard-to-measure sense of self-worth; women, in spite of the social rejection they often experience, manage to find the inner strength to resist these deeply rooted conventions—using insights from feminist discussions, literary critiques, and studies that mirror similar struggles for self-worth and acceptance.
Examining a range of literary analyses, feminist viewpoints, and circumstances, the study shows that our cultural norms have a big influence on women’s mental health and self-worth. According to research, women often internalise what other people think about their value and beauty, which feeds a vicious cycle of loneliness and self-doubt. Another unexpected turn of events is that some tales demonstrate how challenging these long-standing classifications can result in self-acceptance and a renewed sense of authority.
