Abstract

Business investment planning requires financial institutions to make accurate, data-driven decisions that balance profitability with risk. This study explores the application of Decision Tree Analysis in business investment planning at Kotak Mahindra Bank, emphasizing its effectiveness as a predictive and decision-support tool. Decision trees classify investment opportunities by evaluating multiple financial and non-financial factors such as customer creditworthiness, investment amount, expected returns, market trends, risk profile, and economic conditions. By organizing complex decision-making processes into a hierarchical structure of rules, the model enables managers to identify optimal investment strategies while minimizing uncertainty. The study adopts a quantitative research approach using secondary data and simulated investment scenarios to evaluate the performance of decision tree algorithms in supporting investment decisions. The findings indicate that decision tree analysis enhances decision accuracy, improves transparency, facilitates risk assessment, and supports efficient allocation of financial resources. Furthermore, the model assists managers in identifying high-potential investment opportunities while reducing exposure to unfavorable outcomes.
