STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF AN IRREGULAR-SHAPED BUILDING USING STAAD.PRO

The increasing demand for architecturally innovative and functionally efficient structures has led to the widespread adoption of irregularly shaped buildings in modern urban development. However, structural irregularities significantly influence the seismic and wind performance of buildings by causing non-uniform distribution of stiffness, mass, and strength. This study presents the analysis and design of an irregular shaped reinforced concrete building using STAAD.Pro software, with emphasis on evaluating its structural behavior under various loading conditions. The building model is developed according to relevant Indian Standard codes, considering dead load, live load, wind load, and seismic load combinations. Structural members such as beams, columns, slabs, and foundations are designed to ensure safety, stability, and serviceability. The analysis focuses on critical parameters including displacement, storey drift, bending moment, shear force, axial force, and support reactions to assess the overall structural performance. The obtained results are compared with permissible limits specified in design standards to verify the adequacy of the structural system. The study demonstrates how advanced structural analysis software facilitates accurate modeling of complex geometries and enables engineers to optimize member sizes while maintaining structural integrity and economic feasibility. Furthermore, the research highlights the challenges associated with irregular configurations and emphasizes the importance of detailed structural analysis during the design stage to minimize the risk of structural failure during earthquakes and other dynamic loading conditions. The findings indicate that STAAD.Pro provides an efficient and reliable platform for analyzing and designing irregular shaped buildings, thereby contributing to safer, costeffective, and code-compliant construction practices in modern civil engineering.
