Abstract

In the contemporary, hyper-competitive banking landscape, the caliber of human capital serves as the primary differentiator for organizational success. HDFC Bank, being a leader in the private banking sector, invests significantly in continuous learning and development (L&D) to maintain its service excellence and digital transformation edge. This project, titled “Training Effectiveness Evaluation at HDFC Bank,” aims to critically analyze the extent to which training programs contribute to employee skill enhancement, behavioral modification, and overall organizational productivity. The study adopts a descriptive research design, utilizing both primary and secondary data. Primary data was gathered through a structured questionnaire administered to a sample of 100 employees across various functional departments (Retail Assets, Operations, and Wealth Management) at HDFC Bank. The evaluation framework is primarily grounded in the Kirkpatrick Model, focusing on four key levels: Reaction, Learning, Behavior, and Results. Key findings of the research indicate that while HDFC Bank excels in the "Reaction" and "Learning" phases—evidenced by high satisfaction scores regarding trainer competence and module relevance—there exists a marginal gap in the "Transfer of Training" to the actual workplace (Behavioral level) due to high operational workloads. The data analysis, performed using percentage analysis and weighted average methods, suggests that digital-led training interventions (2023–2025) have seen a 15% higher engagement rate compared to traditional classroom settings. The study concludes with strategic recommendations, emphasizing the need for “Post-Training Follow-up Sessions” and the integration of "Performance Support Tools" to bridge the gap between learning and execution. This project provides a comprehensive roadmap for HR managers to optimize training budgets and ensure that L&D initiatives are aligned with the strategic goals of HDFC Bank.
