A REAL-TIME VEHICLE TRACKING SYSTEM USING MOBILE GPS AND WEB-BASED MONITORING

With the growing need for operational efficiency, safety and location awareness, real-time monitoring of vehicles has become a critical need for modern transportation systems. Properly tracking moving vehicles makes for good fleet management, route planning and quick decision making. However, conventional tracking methods require specific hardware, high deployment costs and limited path access for ongoing path analysis and tracking. The proposed vehicle tracking system is based on mobile GPS and a web-based monitoring system for collecting location information in real time and visualizing the routes. The collection includes location data (latitude, longitude, time, speed and vehicle identification) created and obtained by registered mobile devices through GPS while a vehicle is moving. Data preprocessing involves coordinate validation, time-synchronization, removal of missing data, route segmentation and safe storage of location information in a central database. The system features modules such as authenticated user management, real-time locational transmission, retrieval of historical routes and visualization of the map interactively. The performance evaluation was measured with the parameters of tracking accuracy, location update delay, route reconstruction reliability, system response time and data transfer efficiency. Experiments revealed that location estimation was accurate with few delays in updating, history of movement was reliably reconstructed and performance of real-time monitoring was stable in continuous operation. The framework developed offers a solution that is scalable, affordable and accessible, significantly enhancing the vehicle visibility, efficiency of tracking and management of transportation. “Index Terms: Vehicle Tracking System, Global Positioning System (GPS), Real-Time Monitoring, Web-Based Applications, Location Tracking, Fleet Management”.
