STUDENT SMART CARD SYSTEM: ENHANCING CONVENIENCE AND EFFICIENCY IN COLLEGE SERVICES

Educational institutions frequently manage attendance, identity verification, fee records, document access, and other student services through separate manual or semi-digital workflows. This paper presents a Student Smart Card System whose implemented prototype uses QR codes as a portable student identifier and a Flask web application for generation, webcam scanning, attendance logging, and controlled information retrieval. The application creates QR images with the Python qrcode library, decodes them through OpenCV QRCodeDetector, records timestamped attendance using pandas and CSV storage, and provides separate user and administrator interfaces. The broader architecture supports later integration with RFID, relational databases, library services, cashless payments, and institutional ERP systems. Documented evaluation compares manual entry, RFID, and the QR implementation: average attendance time per student was 12.5 s, 3.0 s, and 1.2 s respectively, while reported accuracy was 95%, 98%, and 99%. Six functional conditions covering login, invalid-code rejection, attendance marking, QR generation, administrator retrieval, and profile mapping passed in the project tests. The results indicate that a QR-based smart card can provide a low-cost foundation for a unified, auditable, and extensible smart-campus service platform.
