Abstract

This project presents the design and implementation of a smart home safety system that integrates earthquake and fire detection using embedded system technology. The proposed system utilizes a combination of sensors such as fire sensors, vibration sensors, and MEMS accelerometers to continuously monitor environmental conditions and seismic activity in real time. A microcontroller-based platform, specifically the Raspberry Pi Pico, processes the sensor data and triggers appropriate responses when abnormal conditions are detected. In the event of a fire outbreak or earthquake occurrence, the system activates a buzzer to provide immediate audible alerts and may initiate automatic safety actions such as controlling appliances or closing windows using actuators. Additionally, the system incorporates communication modules like GSM to send alert messages to users, ensuring remote awareness and quick response during emergencies. The integration of multiple hazard detection mechanisms into a single system improves reliability and efficiency compared to conventional standalone systems. The use of Arduino IDE and embedded C programming allows flexibility, customization, and easy implementation. This system is cost-effective, energy-efficient, and suitable for residential applications, enhancing the safety of occupants by providing early warning and rapid response. Overall, the proposed solution offers a comprehensive approach to disaster management within homes, reducing potential damage and saving lives through timely detection and automated safety measures.
