Abstract

Efficient water management is a critical challenge in modern agriculture, especially in
regions facing water scarcity and climate variability. Traditional irrigation practices often
rely on manual observation or fixed schedules, leading to over-irrigation or underirrigation,
both of which negatively impact crop yield and resource utilization. This
research presents an AI-driven smart irrigation management system that leverages soil
moisture analytics and predictive modeling to optimize water usage and improve
agricultural productivity. The proposed system is developed using the Django web
framework and integrates real-time soil moisture monitoring with intelligent decisionmaking.
Soil moisture data is collected and stored in a structured database, where each
farm zone is monitored independently. The system evaluates soil conditions using key
parameters such as volumetric water content (VWC), field capacity, and wilting point to
determine the irrigation status of each zone.
A rule-based analytical model is implemented to classify soil conditions into three
categories: saturated, optimal, and stress. These classifications help farmers understand
the real-time status of their fields and make informed irrigation decisions. Additionally, a
predictive component based on water balance modeling is incorporated to estimate future
soil moisture conditions, enabling proactive irrigation planning. The system provides an
interactive dashboard that displays zone-wise soil moisture readings, status indicators,
and historical trends. Visualization tools are used to represent moisture variations over
time, enhancing user understanding and decision-making. The modular design ensures
scalability and allows integration with IoT sensors for automated data collection.
