Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology capable of accelerating sustainable development across emerging economies. In the Indian context, where challenges such as poverty, agricultural distress, unemployment, rapid urbanization, environmental degradation, and unequal access to healthcare and education persist, AI offers data-driven and scalable solutions. This research paper examines the role of AI in advancing sustainable development in India by analyzing its contribution across agriculture, healthcare, education, smart cities, environmental conservation, governance, and industry. The study evaluates policy initiatives, institutional frameworks, and technological advancements supporting AI adoption. It further explores challenges including the digital divide, infrastructure limitations, ethical concerns, workforce displacement, and regulatory gaps. The paper argues that inclusive and responsible AI governance is critical to ensuring equitable growth and social justice. By integrating AI within national development strategies and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), India can leverage innovation to achieve long-term economic, social, and environmental sustainability. The research concludes that while AI is not a standalone solution, it is a powerful enabler when combined with human capital development, institutional reforms, and ethical regulation.
