Power quality has gained increasing importance due to the restructuring of power systems and the growing shift toward distributed generation. Efficient management of reactive power is essential to enhance the performance and stability of AC power systems. To address power quality challenges, Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices are widely utilized, among which the Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator (D-STATCOM) has proven to be an effective solution for improving distribution system performance. A D-STATCOM operates by injecting current into the system to compensate for the reactive component of the load current, thereby reducing feeder losses and improving the performance of the voltage source inverter. The proposed approach enhances the functionality of the D-STATCOM to mitigate various power quality issues. It provides capabilities such as power factor correction, harmonic mitigation, load balancing, and voltage regulation based on varying load demands. The proposed topology aligns with modern power system trends, including the increased use of electronic loads that introduce harmonic pollution and the integration of renewable energy sources. By addressing these challenges, the system contributes to the development of a more reliable, efficient, and sustainable power supply.
