Abstract

This work presents the design and implementation of a Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) drive for electric vehicle (EV) applications. The SynRM offers a cost-effective and efficient alternative to permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) by eliminating the need for rare-earth magnets while maintaining high torque density and efficiency. The project involves modeling the motor, designing an appropriate power electronic inverter, implementing a control strategy, and testing the drive under EV operating conditions. Simulation and experimental results confirm that the SynRM drive achieves smooth torque control, high efficiency, and dynamic performance suitable for EV propulsion.
