Abstract

A pet adoption portal serves as an online platform that connects potential pet owners with animals in need of homes, providing a streamlined and efficient process for adopting pets. Before web platforms, people relied on visiting local animal shelters, reading classified ads, or word-of-mouth to find pets for adoption, which was often time-consuming and limited in scope. Prior to the development of the website, potential adopters faced several challenges. They had limited access to available pets and had to physically visit multiple shelters or rely on less reliable methods like newspaper ads or community bulletin boards. This often resulted in a lower adoption rate and overcrowded shelters due to the inefficiency in matching pets with suitable owners. The research motivation for this project stems from the desire to improve the adoption process by leveraging technology to connect more pets with loving homes efficiently. This project aims to address the issues of shelter overcrowding, enhance visibility of adoptable pets, and provide a more convenient and accessible means for people to adopt pets. The proposed online pet adoption portal will feature a user-friendly interface where potential adopters can search for pets based on criteria such as species, breed, age, and location. Each pet listing will include comprehensive profiles with information on temperament, health status, and any special needs, allowing users to make informed decisions. Adopters can interact directly with shelters through the platform, initiating adoption inquiries and scheduling visits or virtual meet-and-greets with pets of interest. By leveraging technology, the portal aims to increase adoption rates and reduce shelter overcrowding by reaching a broader audience of potential adopters. It will foster transparency and trust between shelters and adopters, ultimately creating a more efficient and compassionate ecosystem for pet adoption
